In Somali cities, you will immediately notice that you are surrounded by Toyota branded vehicles. Toyota is the most popular brand in Somalia and by far it dominates the car markets in the country. The core reasons for the dominance of Toyota in the market are the easy availability and cheap price of spare parts as well as the availability of garages that handle minor servicing and maintenance, paint as well as heavy maintenance of those vehicles. Recently, the models Toyota 4Runner and Toyota Land Cruiser are the most widely wanted in the market.
Models such as Toyota Verso and Toyota Vitz are very popular due to their lower price and low fuel consumption; their small size also makes them easy for parking.
Others Toyota models are also very popular in spite of different characteristics like the classy Toyota Verossa, the old Toyota MR2, and Mark II and the compact Toyota Noah.
Suzuki Alto and Nissan Fuga are the most appreciated competitors of these Toyota models in Somalia.
Brands such as Mitsubishi, Land Rover, Daihatsu, Hummer, Isuzu, BMW, Jeep etc. also have a significant share in the market. However, due to their expensive price, the high price of spare parts, uneasy access to garages of some of these brands, relatively higher fuel consumption, resale value, etc. they are less popular but, as you can read, 4-wheel drive remains unavoidable in our desertic country!
